Corning Acquires Saint-Gobain’s Shielding and Optics Business Unit

Corning Incorporated today announced the acquisition of Saint-Gobain’s Shielding and Optics business unit, which includes Saint-Gobain Sovis radiation shielding and optics business, in Jouarre, France, and Hot Cell Services, in Kent, Washington, U.S.

This acquisition expands Corning’s current radiation shielding business, opens new market opportunities, and enables the manufacturing and supply of products for nuclear power and medical shielding applications and optical components.

This strategic portfolio addition will deepen our innovation capabilities and unlock new market opportunities,” said David Velasquez, vice president and general manager, Corning Advanced Optics. “The synergies generated by joining these two organizations enables us to deliver safe, reliable, advanced solutions to our end-users and customers.”

“The acquisition of Saint-Gobain’s Shielding and Optics business extends our advanced optics portfolio, joining our latest innovation Corning® Med-X® LT Glass,” concluded Velasquez.
